Key Features

Copper Tape Screen

An overlapping soft-copper tape screen, at least 0.05 mm thick in the reference construction, surrounds the assembled cores for electrostatic shielding.

Japanese CVV-S Construction

The product can be manufactured against a confirmed project specification aligned with the construction and test requirements referenced by JIS C 3401, JIS C 3005 and JCS 4258.

Multi-core Size Program

Reference combinations cover 1.25 to 38 mm² conductors and 2 to 30 cores, with the permitted core count depending on conductor size.

Flexible MOQ Planning

MOQ can be reviewed flexibly for selected conductor sizes, core counts and order lengths after material and production planning.

Product Overview

Product overview

CVV-S is a PVC-insulated, PVC-sheathed, copper-tape-screened control cable for control circuits operating at 600 V or less. It is intended for fixed wiring in plants, substations, factories and industrial control installations where the project calls for a Japanese-style CVV-S construction and an overall electrostatic screen.

DEV CABLE can manufacture this cable against a confirmed specification aligned with the applicable construction and test references. Construction, factory tests, marking and required project documents are agreed before production. Flexible MOQ can be reviewed according to conductor size, core count, cable length and material planning.

Construction

Layer Reference construction
Conductor Circular stranded annealed copper conductor
Insulation PVC
Core identification 2 cores: black/white; 3 cores: black/white/red; 4 cores: black/white/red/green; 5 cores and above: numbered black cores
Assembly Insulated cores laid up with fillers and binder where required
Screen Overlapping soft-copper tape, at least 0.05 mm thick in the reference construction
Outer sheath Black PVC

The copper tape screen should be correctly bonded and grounded as required by the installation design. CVV-S is a fixed-installation control cable; it should not be selected as a continuous-flex or drag-chain cable without a separate dynamic-cable review.

Reference size and outside-diameter program

The following selection range is based on established Japanese CVV-S construction tables. Diameters are approximate reference values, not a universal tolerance or a released DEV CABLE datasheet.

Nominal conductor size Reference core counts Approx. overall diameter range
1.25 mm² 2-30 cores 9.6-23 mm
2 mm² 2-30 cores 10.5-26 mm
3.5 mm² 2-30 cores 12-31 mm
5.5 mm² 2-20 cores 14-31 mm
8 mm² 2-12 cores 16-30 mm
14 mm² 2-6 cores 19-27 mm
22 mm² 2-4 cores 23-27 mm
38 mm² 2-4 cores 27-32 mm

The finished diameter changes with conductor construction, insulation and sheath tolerances, fillers, binder and marking requirements. Request a confirmed construction table when cable glands or entry seals depend on a tight diameter range.

Electrical and flame-performance references

Item Reference requirement
Circuit voltage 600 V or less
Maximum conductor temperature 60°C
Voltage test AC 2,000 V for 1 minute for most listed combinations; 38 mm² reference combinations use AC 2,500 V
Minimum insulation resistance at 20°C 50 MΩ·km for 1.25-8 mm²; 40 MΩ·km for 14-38 mm²
Flame performance JIS C 3005 60-degree inclined test, self-extinguishing within 60 seconds in the referenced method

These values define the target quotation basis. Final conformity can only be stated for the agreed construction after the specified factory tests have been completed and recorded.

Standards and project documentation

  • JIS C 3401: construction reference for control cables.
  • JIS C 3005: referenced test methods for rubber- and plastic-insulated wires and cables.
  • JCS 4258: reference for screened control cables, including the CVV-S copper-tape-screen construction.
  • Project documentation: the quotation can define the agreed construction table, routine factory tests, inspection scope, marking and documents.

Please identify the evidence and acceptance documents required by the project so they can be included in the technical review before production.

Applications and selection limits

Typical quotation enquiries include plant control circuits, substation auxiliary wiring, factory control panels, process equipment and fixed industrial signal or control routing where an overall copper tape screen is specified. Confirm installation method, grounding design, chemical or oil exposure, outdoor exposure and local code acceptance.

Do not substitute CVV-S automatically for CVV-SB, F-CVV-S, FD-CVV-S, instrumentation pair cable, VFD motor cable or continuous-flex cable. Their shield form, flame test, conductor arrangement and intended movement can differ.

Information required for a quotation

FAQ

How is alignment with JCS 4258 and JIS requirements confirmed?

The agreed construction is reviewed against the cited standard requirements, and the quotation defines the factory tests, marking and documents included for the order.

What is the difference between CVV-S and CVV-SB?

CVV-S uses an overall copper tape screen. CVV-SB normally identifies a copper-wire braid screen. Confirm the required designation because termination, flexibility and shield construction differ.

Are all sizes available with 30 cores?

No. The reference program allows up to 30 cores only for 1.25, 2 and 3.5 mm². Larger conductors have lower maximum core counts, as shown in the size table.

Are the outside diameters guaranteed?

Not until the exact construction is released. The displayed diameters are selection references. A confirmed datasheet is required for procurement and cable-gland selection.
