FT7 configuration shown: 3 × 25 mm² Power Cores + 1 × 25 mm² Pilot Core + 1 × 16 mm² Earth Conductor. This is one specific 1.1 kV FT7 configuration; other FT7 designs do not necessarily use the same pilot and earth conductor sizes.
For Type 441 and Type 450, the specified power conductor size refers only to the nominal cross-sectional area of each power core, not the total cable cross-sectional area. Earth conductors and pilot cores must follow the selected cable construction and applicable standard; their cross-sectional areas must not be assumed to equal those of the power conductors.
The configurations above represent selected standard mining cable designs. Additional voltage ratings, conductor sizes and earth/pilot configurations are available according to project specifications. Final construction and dimensional data are confirmed for each cable design. Reference standards identify the relevant cable designs and do not imply that every listed product holds every certification.
Mining Reeling Cable — Available Core & Conductor Sizes
DEV CABLE supplies flexible mining reeling cables for cable drum systems, mobile equipment, stackers, reclaimers and mining machinery.
The following configurations illustrate the available low-voltage reeling cable range. The reference cable family is NSHTOU / NSHTÖU-style low-voltage reeling cable, rated 0.6/1 kV (U₀/U). Additional medium-voltage mining reeling designs can be manufactured according to the selected cable standard and application requirements.

The 3 + 1 examples indicate mixed conductor cross-sectional areas: three conductors of the first size and one conductor of the second size. The additional conductor’s function is defined by the selected construction; it is not automatically PE, neutral, earth or pilot. The × notation does not establish a protective earth arrangement and must not be replaced with G unless that arrangement is explicitly defined.
The listed sizes are representative configurations for low-voltage reeling cable designs. Suitable core arrangements, reinforcement, bending performance and operating limits depend on the selected application and cable construction. A trailing cable designation does not automatically establish high-speed reeling suitability.
Mining Cable Solutions for Moving Equipment
DEV CABLE manufactures customized mining trailing and reeling cables designed for demanding mining environments.
Our mining cable solutions support mobile mining equipment, heavy-duty machinery and cable reel systems, with flexible conductor configurations, specialized insulation and protective sheath materials.
From conductor sizes and voltage ratings to core configurations and mechanical reinforcement, we provide tailored cable solutions according to project requirements and applicable international standards. This professional mining cable range is engineered around the specified equipment duty; the final construction and operating limits are agreed for each project.
The Key Specifications table describes manufacturing options, rather than one cable with universal ratings. Provide the machine specification, electrical requirements and cable-handling details so we can define the appropriate construction.
The product cutaway is a representative construction view. Core count, materials, screening and reinforcement depend on the ordered design and are not established by the image alone.
Mining Trailing Cable
A mining trailing cable supplies mobile mining equipment while moving along with the machinery. Its route can involve changing bends, contact with the ground and pulling forces as the machine advances or changes position.
Selection focuses on continuous movement, flexible conductor construction, abrasion resistance, tensile strength and mechanical protection. State the travel path, ground conditions, pulling loads and cable supports; the outer sheath and reinforcement must be selected for the actual handling conditions.
Typical applications include mobile mining machinery, underground mining equipment, electrically powered Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) equipment, mobile conveyors and mining machinery power connections. Suitability depends on the specific machine, power circuit, mine environment and required approvals.
Mining Reeling Cable
A mining reeling cable is engineered for repeated winding and unwinding on a cable drum or reel system. The cable experiences repeated bending under tension, contact pressure between windings and possible torsional stress from the handling arrangement.
Selection therefore includes dynamic flexing, tensile reinforcement, torsional resistance, drum compatibility and long-term mechanical durability. Provide the drum geometry, winding arrangement, guide/sheave layout, travel speed and expected duty cycle. These inputs determine the construction and the operating limits to confirm before ordering.
Typical applications include electric rope shovels, draglines, stackers and reclaimers, mobile cable reel systems and other large mining machinery fitted with a suitable reel system. The machine name alone does not determine whether its cable needs trailing, reeling or another movement duty.
Mechanical Differences Between Trailing and Reeling
| Selection factor | Trailing duty | Reeling duty |
|---|---|---|
| Cable movement | Follows the moving machine along its route | Winds and unwinds through the reel and guide system |
| Main mechanical assessment | Ground contact, changing bends, pulling forces and route protection | Repeated drum bends, winding pressure, tension and any torsion |
| Construction review | Conductor flexibility, sheath protection and required tensile reinforcement | Conductor and core lay-up, reinforcement, sheath and drum compatibility |
| Equipment information | Travel path, supports, exposure and handling loads | Drum and sheave dimensions, winding arrangement, speed and duty cycle |
| Acceptance | Confirm suitability for the specified trailing conditions | Confirm suitability for the specified reeling system and operating limits |
Trailing and reeling cables are not interchangeable by default. A design may serve both duties only when its confirmed specification covers both. Neither rubber insulation nor easy hand bending establishes a permitted reel diameter, torsion limit or service life.
Cable Construction
The following elements explain a configurable mining cable construction from the conductors outward. Earth and pilot/control conductors form part of the core arrangement rather than continuous concentric layers. Not every cable includes every element: voltage rating, cable type, applicable standards and customer requirements determine the final design.
| Construction element | Function and specification decision |
|---|---|
| Flexible copper conductor | Carries the specified circuit. Select cross-section, strand construction and conductor class for electrical and movement requirements. |
| EPR insulation | Electrically insulates the conductor. EPR or another specified elastomer is selected for the agreed electrical and thermal duty. |
| Semi-conductive layer, when required | Forms part of the electric-field-control system for constructions that require it. Define conductor/insulation screens and other screening layers in the approved design. |
| Earth conductor, according to design | Provides the specified protective conductor arrangement. Its number, position, size and connections must match the equipment and installation requirements. |
| Pilot/control core, when required | Carries the specified monitoring or control circuit. Confirm function, core arrangement and electrical requirements separately from the power cores. |
| Inner protective sheath, when specified | Forms a protective bedding or inner covering around the assembled cores, using rubber or the selected compound. |
| Reinforcement structure, when required | Addresses the specified tensile and reeling loads. Material, position and load limits depend on the complete construction. |
| Heavy-duty outer sheath | Protects the cable against the agreed mechanical and environmental exposure. PCP, CPE or another specified compound is selected for the application. |
Screening, semi-conductive layers and reinforcement serve different purposes and must be specified separately. Required abrasion, oil, moisture and weather resistance must be confirmed for the selected sheath and complete cable. These material options do not establish permanent immersion, flame performance or hazardous-area approval.
For insulation-selection context, read our EPR, EPDM and HEPR cable insulation guide. Its material comparisons do not replace the selected mining cable specification.
Mining Cable Applications
Application names identify the equipment context; selection still requires the electrical duty, movement pattern, exposure and applicable mine requirements.
- Open-pit mining: moving power connections across exposed working areas; define ground contact, weather and cable management.
- Underground mining: restricted routes and mobile equipment; confirm the relevant mine rules and required approvals before selection.
- Coal mining equipment: power connections for the specified coal-mining machinery; identify any fire, explosive-atmosphere or statutory requirements explicitly.
- Metal ore mining: cables for mobile extraction and materials-handling equipment, with abrasion and site conditions specified.
- Electric mining shovels: assess the machine supply and actual trailing or reel arrangement together.
- Draglines: specify travel, cable routing, tensile loads and whether the selected machine uses reeling equipment.
- Stackers and reclaimers: match the power/control configuration to the traveling machine and its cable reel system.
- Mining conveyor systems: distinguish mobile sections and reel-fed equipment from fixed conveyor wiring.
- Mobile mining equipment: define the movement, protection and termination interfaces for the individual machine.

We support custom engineering, project-based manufacturing and international B2B supply. Discuss flexible MOQ requirements with our team; the minimum quantity is agreed for the selected construction and project rather than assumed across the range.
For general portable industrial power connections, compare our industrial rubber cable and H07RN-F range. A general flexible rubber cable does not automatically meet mining reeling requirements. For a separate suspended push-button control circuit, see crane pendant control cable; its support-wire construction does not establish mining power-cable suitability.

International Standards and Quality Assurance
DEV CABLE manufactures and tests mining cables according to the applicable international standard and customer-specific technical requirements agreed for the selected construction. Different cable standards address different cable types, voltage classes, environments and applications; a product-family description does not establish compliance with all of them.
Provide the exact standard, edition, cable designation, mine or equipment approval requirement and acceptance documents needed for your project. Confirm the applicable qualification scope and supporting documentation with DEV CABLE before order approval. No named certification or universal standards compliance is claimed for this configurable range.
Every finished cable length undergoes 100% continuity testing before shipment. Any additional electrical, dimensional, mechanical or acceptance tests must be defined separately in the agreed specification; continuity testing does not establish a complete type-test or certification program.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a mining trailing cable?
A mining trailing cable is a flexible power cable that moves with mobile mining machinery. Its construction must address the specified bending, pulling forces, abrasion, electrical duty and site conditions.
What is the difference between mining trailing cable and mining reeling cable?
Trailing cable follows the machine along its route. Reeling cable repeatedly winds and unwinds on a drum, adding drum-bending, winding-pressure and tension requirements, with torsion assessed for the handling system. Use a cable for both duties only when its confirmed specification covers both.
What insulation materials are used in mining cables?
EPR and other specified elastomeric insulation materials can be used according to the cable design. The selected compound and complete construction determine electrical and thermal limits; the material name alone does not establish a temperature rating.
Can DEV CABLE manufacture customized mining cables?
Yes. DEV CABLE manufactures customized mining cable models and constructions, including project-specific conductor sizes, core arrangements, insulation, sheaths, earth/pilot cores, screening, reinforcement and packaging.
What voltage ratings are available?
Voltage ratings are customized according to the application, selected construction and applicable standard. Send the system voltage and required cable rating for technical review; no universal numerical voltage range is specified for this configurable product family.
Can mining cables include earth and pilot cores?
Yes. Earth conductors and pilot/control cores can be included according to the design and project requirements. Their arrangement and electrical characteristics must match the equipment protection, monitoring and control circuits.
Which international standards can mining cables follow?
The applicable standard depends on cable type, voltage class, application and destination requirements. Provide the exact standard and edition so DEV CABLE can confirm the relevant construction, qualification scope and supporting documents for the order.
Can DEV CABLE supply mining cables in customized lengths?
